São Luís and Lençóis Maranhenses

Located just 2 degrees south of the Equator, the Lençóis Maranhenses region has a hot and semi-humid climate throughout the year, with temperatures ranging from 22°C to 37°C.
The rainy season, from January to May, is ideal for those who prefer milder sun, although occasional showers may occur.
From June to December, the dry season prevails, bringing sunny days and ideal conditions for excursions.
Between October and February, due to the complete lack of rainfall, the lagoons gradually dry up and may become completely empty in years when the rainy season has been unusually short.

Arrival in São Luís and accommodation in hotel with air-conditioned vehicle.
The room will be available at check in time at 2:00 p.m., still being able to leave your luggage in storage and use the common areas.
Remaining part of the day is to visit the city.

Overnight stay in São Luís with breakfast.

We leave between 06:30 and 07:40, depending on which hotel we pick you up from, in an air-conditioned 30-seat tourist minibus. The drive is about 270 km on paved roads to Barreirinhas, one of the main gateways to Lençóis Maranhenses National Park. Expected arrival is between 12:20 and 12:50.
Note: seats are assigned at random. For a more comfortable journey and a transfer more than an hour shorter, you can request a private vehicle for an additional fee.

In the afternoon, after checking in at the hotel, we set off at 14:00 on an unforgettable group excursion to the Lagoa Bonita circuit, about 1 hour off-road from Barreirinhas. We travel in a 4x4 jeep without air conditioning, open at the sides and fitted with a canopy. After leaving town, we follow a bumpy sand track to the dunes of Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, where we leave the jeep. From here we continue on foot through white sand dunes: we climb to the top of a dune more than 60 meters high for the best view, then go on to explore the area's lagoons. In this corner of paradise you can swim in cool, crystal-clear lagoons, filled by the rains between February and June and surrounded by white dunes as far as the eye can see. Some are up to 4 meters deep. Strong winds in the second half of the year move the dunes by up to 20 meters a year, so no two visits are ever the same.
We return to town after 19:00, after a stunning sunset among the dunes.

Warning: diving headfirst into the lagoons is not allowed. The bottom is uneven and often shallow: the risk of serious injury is real. Enter the water on foot.

Overnight in Barreirinhas, breakfast included.

After breakfast, departure at 08:15 in a non-air-conditioned 4x4 jeep for an exciting day of exploration. The route follows a sandy track of about 30 km, passing through increasingly impressive natural scenery. The drive takes approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes, until we reach the area where the first dunes of the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park begin to appear.
We then continue toward the beach of the picturesque village of Atins, where the waters of the Rio Preguiças meet the ocean, creating a unique and charming landscape. After a short stop, we proceed for another 20 minutes to reach the stunning dunes, where we’ll find natural lagoons of extraordinary beauty: fresh, crystal-clear waters in shades of green and blue — perfect for a refreshing swim in a magical setting. 
Around 13:30, we’ll stop for lunch (not included) at a rustic and welcoming local restaurant, well known for the quality of its food. Among the specialties, don’t miss the famous grilled shrimp from Canto do Atins, a true local delicacy.
Return to the city is expected between 16:30 and 17:30, after a day filled with unforgettable landscapes and authentic flavors of Maranhão.

Overnight in Barreirinhas with breakfast.

We leave at 08:30 for the port of Barreirinhas, where we board a speedboat (lancha voadeira) and head down the Rio Preguiças toward the ocean. Our first stop is in the Vassouras area: we can climb the dunes of the Little Lençóis Maranhenses and watch the capuchin monkeys (macacos-prego). They look tame, but they can bite or scratch, and they usually come over out of curiosity. Please don’t feed them sweets, candy or other unsuitable food: at the local stalls, anyone who wants to offer them something can find bananas or coconut.
We continue along the river to the village of Mandacaru, where you can browse craft shops, try the best caipirinha in the region at the kiosk on the pier and, if it can be accessed, climb the navy lighthouse (Farol Preguiças) for a view over the whole river mouth and part of Lençóis Maranhenses National Park.
Finally we reach Caburé beach, where you can have lunch (not included), swim in the river or the sea and relax.
Warning: the sea current at Caburé is very strong, so swim with care. We also advise against renting quad bikes to explore the beach on your own: the terrain is treacherous and accidents are a real risk.
We leave Caburé at around 14:15 and are back in Barreirinhas at 15:30.

Note: if you are returning to São Luís the same day, the room must be vacated before the excursion. Luggage can be left in storage at the hotel reception.

We leave Barreirinhas in the late afternoon, between 16:00 and 17:00, depending on which hotel we pick you up from, in an air-conditioned 30-seat tourist minibus bound for São Luís. The journey takes about 5 hours, with arrival expected around 21:30.

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel.
The accommodations will be available until noon. If you have a flight after normal check-out time, you can still leave your luggage in the lobby and use the hotel's common areas, such as the bar and swimming pool, until your departure time.

Transfer in air-conditioned vehicle to airport of São Luis and flight departure. Leave hotel 2 hours before plane take-off.

End of service.

Alterations

• Once the travel itinerary has been established and confirmed and the relevant travel documents have been sent, any subsequent changes will incur an additional fee.
• During the execution of the trip, it will not be possible to change the transport or excursion schedules. All services are booked in advance, and any changes will require the booking and payment of a new service

Cancellations and Refunds
In the event of cancellation of the trip at the client's request, the following cancellation fees will apply, calculated on the total value of the cancelled services:

• 20% cancellation fee for cancellations made at least 30 days before the start of the trip.
• 30% cancellation fee for cancellations made between 29 and 15 days before the start of the trip.
• 50% cancellation fee for cancellations made between 14 and 7 days before the start of the trip.
• 100% cancellation fee for cancellations made less than 7 days before the start of the trip.
• No refunds will be provided for services voluntarily cancelled or not used by the client after the trip has begun.
• Any services subject to specific or non-refundable conditions established by the respective suppliers will be governed by those conditions when they have been communicated to the client before the booking is confirmed.
• For any airline tickets included in the trip, modification, cancellation and refund conditions are exclusively those established by the airline and the fare purchased and are not subject to the cancellation percentages indicated above.
• For trips during Carnival and New Year's periods, special cancellation and refund conditions may apply and will be communicated to the client before confirmation.
• Whenever possible and subject to the conditions applied by the suppliers, Brasil Planet may offer the client, as an alternative to a refund, the possibility of retaining the amounts already paid as credit, with no expiration date, for a future trip. Use of the credit will be subject to service availability and the rates applicable at the time of the new booking. If the credit is accepted, no refund will be issued for the amounts converted into credit. The credit is not an automatic entitlement.
